One For The Money

The Cleveland Indians got us back in the win column last night, pushing our record to 2-1 and back into the plus money. Lets try to post another win and get on a roll, we head out to Seattle for tonight's matchup between the Seattle Mariners and Baltimore Orioles.

GAME: Baltimore Orioles Vs Seattle Mariners

Location: T-Mobile Park, Seattle

Time: 10:10 est.

Line: Seattle -135

The Baltimore Orioles have been one of the early season surprises climbing back to respectability after being one of the worst franchises in MLB over the last few years. The strong start has continued recently going 6-3 in their last 9 including a series opening win last night 5-3. The resurgence has been lead by a strong offense that has averaged over 6 runs per game in the last 3, going 9-1 in their last 10 scoring 4 or more runs. The offense is lead by Cedric Mullins hitting at a .333 clip, with 5 homers and 21 RBIs. Trey Mancini and Maikel Franco chipping in 21 and 18 RBIs respectively. The Orioles send Jorge Lopez to the mound trying to break out of his early season funk. His history against Seattle suggests its possible, with a career 2.98 ERA against them. His number this year tell a very different story, going 1-3 and sporting a ridiculous 7.48 ERA so far. Diving a little deeper into numbers tells an even worse story of his year. Lopez is giving up a hit per inning pitched, 18 runs and 6 homers.

The Seattle Mariners came out of the gate strong, but have been stumbling recently going 3-3 in their last 6 games, including last nights 5-3 set back to start this series. The rotation has suffered a rash of injuries, causing some shuffling early on. Justin Dunn gets the call tonight and has been the very definition of average so far this season. He sports a 1-0 record, a 3.98 ERA, and a 1 to 1 strikeout to walk ratio. The offense has been the main reason for the slide, it doesn't have a hitter over .300 and it has produced 3 or less runs in their last 9 games. The offense is lead by Mitch Haniger and his .268 batting and 23 RBIs. Ty France adds the pop with his 8 homers and Kyle Seager has chipped in 20 RBIs.

I hate depending on bullpens, but that's where we find ourselves tonight. This will be a bullpen game as neither starting pitcher inspires much confidence. I give the bullpen edge to Seattle as they have 3 relievers with a save so far this year. I think the struggling Mariner offense finds some footing against the struggling Lopez early. That combined with a strong effort out of the bullpen and Seattle should even this series at home coming off last nights loss.

Why we shouldn’t be depressed about the ALCS loss

Now I am not going to pretend that I was in a good mood after that performance by the Red Sox last night, or Wednesday night. I’m not going to pretend that it’s not disappointing to come so close and
