Football Funds: Week 1 NFL Picks

Week One of the NFL is upon us! Many including myself never thought we would ever get here, but we made it! This is the first edition of the Football Funds for the Blue Collar Media group and couldn't be more excited! I will try to wade through the always tough and competitive NFL jungle and find some winners for us. Win or lose, ill track my record and hopefully turn a profit! but let's dive into Week one and Welcome football back in style!

YTD Record 0-0

Arizona Cardinals @ San Francisco 49ers

Line: San Francisco -7 O/U 48

Game time: Sunday 4:25 est

The defending Super Bowl Champion 49ers open the season, oh wait that's right Kyle Shanahan coached defeat from the jaws of victory against the Chiefs in another Super Bowl meltdown. This 49er team will look vastly different than the one that went to the Super bowl. Gone are Joe Staley, Emmanuel Sanders, and DeForest Buckner. The loss of Sanders wouldn't have been such a blow, but the offense will also be without breakout player Deebo Samuel that is still nursing a fractured foot. George Kittle is still there and healthy unlike both matchups with the Cardinals last year., but with nothing outside I'm interested in seeing if athletic rookie Isiah Simmons out of Clemson can slow him down, if that happens the 49ers are going to have a tough time moving the ball. The 49er defense will still be formidable with Nick Bosa leading the charge. The Arizona Cardinals got an absolute gift from my favorite punching bag Bill O'Brien. Good Ole boy Bill sent DeAndre Hopkins gifted wrapped to Kyler Murray's front door. The duo looked to get on the same page, even if it's against Richard Sherman, I think they connect for a score. Strangely enough, this is one of those divisional matchups that always seems to be close, the Cardinals are actual 9-3 straight up in their last 12 meetings. Give me Kyler and his playmaking ability and a touchdown head start in this one.

Pick: Arizona Cardinals +7 (.5 unit)

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ New Orleans Saints

Line: New Orleans -3.5 O/U 47.5

Game time: Sunday 4:25 est

No team has made more splash moves then the Tampa or should I call them TOMpa Bay? Signing the New England great to a free agent deal, then luring in his safety blanket Rob Gronkowski out of retirement for a reunion in the sunshine state. They then go and get Leonard Fournette freshly cut by the dumpster fire Jacksonville Jaguars. What an offseason indeed, but championships aren't won on paper and it may take some time for all the pieces to come together. The Saints window is closing and they are in win-now mode, Drew Brees and Michael Thomas form one of the best QB/WR duos but the addition of Emmanuel Sanders on the other side should help alleviate some of the pressure. Alvin Kamara has been in a contract dispute most of camp, but I think he has a bounce-back year and the Saints pay him. I think both defenses have their hands full with all the skill that will take the field Sunday afternoon and it wouldn't surprise me to see both teams hit 30 after a slow start, so give me the over and let's hope they gel quickly!

Pick: Over 47.5 (.5 unit)

Pittsburgh Steelers @ New York Giants

LIne: Pittsburgh -6

Game time: Monday 8:15 est

Ben Roethlisberger makes his return to black and gold, but David DeCastro is out! That will make for 3 new offensive linemen starting on the road with no preseason to gel, but as long as Ben is healthy the offense will be a huge upgrade from last year. Daniel Jones draws a rough assignment to start year two, he looked good at points last year and I think he will take a step forward in year two. Saquon Barkley will help relieve some of the pressure with dump-offs to avoid TJ Watt and that Steelers pass rush. I know the Steelers and I know you don't lay 6 on the road with them! They are 25-43 as road favorites against the spread since 2007. The Steelers will win this game, but it will be closer than most think.

Pick: New York Giants +6 (1 unit)

Well, let us hope we make some cash together and stay tuned for more gambling picks to come from the Blue Collar Media Group.
